Day 3 of GC81 (June 25, 2024)

Today (Day 3 of General Convention 81), I met the dean of Canterbury Cathedral, the president and dean of Church Divinity School of the Pacific, the 4th century bishop of Myra, a member of the Anamchara Fellowship, and the former dean of Trinity Cathedral Phoenix.

The Very Rev. David Robert Malvern Monteith, the dean of the Cathedral and Metropolitical Church of Christ, Canterbury

Dr. Stephen Edward Fowl, the president and dean of Church Divinity School of the Pacific

The Fourth Century of Bishop St. Nicholas of Myra a.k.a. Santa Claus

The Rev. Benjamin Gildas Wallis of Incarnation Holy Sacrament Church in Drexel Hill PA and member of the Anamchara Fellowship

The Rev. Troy Mendez, the former dean of Trinity Cathedral in Phoenix Arizona, who is now the Executive Director of the Episcopal Evangelism Society. He and I served together briefly at my sponsoring parish, Church of Our Saviour in San Gabriel CA.

Regarding legislation, we passed resolutions that:

– approved the expansion of the Diocese of Hawai’i to include Guam and Saipan (which currently comprise the now defunct Episcopal Church in Micronesia);

– condemn harmful and oppressive book bans and encourage dioceses and parishes to store and archive affirming books and material about LGBTQ+ and POC Christian experiences;

– strongly urge the US Congress to ban the possession of all military-style assault weapons, bump stocks, and high-capacity magazines (except for military-style assault weapons);

– grant the petition of the Navajoland Area Mission to become a Missionary Diocese, which now allows church members in the diocese to elect their own bishop while continuing to receive financial and other support from the wider church.
